Move from iCloud to Gmail

All emails and folders come from iCloud into your Gmail mailbox. Your iCloud mailbox stays unchanged, and we bring over new emails to the old address for 30 days.

What to set up first

About five minutes. After that you only enter your two addresses and passwords in the move wizard.

At iCloud

Sign in with your Apple ID and open “Sign-In and Security”.
Under “App-Specific Passwords”, create a password named “Mailovo”.
You enter this password in the wizard instead of your Apple password.

In your Google Account, turn on “2-Step Verification” under “Security” if it is still off.
On the “App passwords” page, create a password named “Mailovo”.
Google shows 16 letters. You enter them in the wizard instead of your normal password.

What happens to your folders

Inbox, Sent, Drafts and Trash land in the matching folder at Gmail, whatever it is called there. Your own folders keep their names and subfolders. Read, flagged and answered marks are kept.

Gmail uses labels instead of folders. Your folders appear on the left as labels, subfolders as nested labels.

We only include Trash and Spam if you want. Before the start you can deselect individual folders.

How long does the move take?

Usually a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the size of the mailbox. You don’t need to stay: we email you once everything is there.

Gmail only accepts about 500 MB of new emails per day via the mail protocol. A 3 GB mailbox therefore takes about a week. We continue automatically every day, and the emails of the last 30 days arrive first.

Contacts and calendars

We can’t bring contacts and calendars along automatically at Gmail. After the move we show you step by step how to export and import them yourself.
