Mailovo should work for everyone

Many people moving their mailbox have low vision, use a screen magnifier or a screen reader, or simply didn’t grow up with computers. So we build every page to be usable without barriers. Here is an honest account of where we stand.

Last reviewed: September 2026. We measure ourselves against WCAG 2.2 level AA, which the European standard EN 301 549 is based on. Based on our own testing, the pages largely meet these requirements.

What we do

  • Easy-to-read typeface

Our typeface, Atkinson Hyperlegible, was developed by the Braille Institute for people with low vision. Characters like I, l and 1 are easy to tell apart. You can zoom to 200% and beyond without anything being cut off.

  • Strong contrast, dark mode too

Text and buttons stand out clearly from the background (contrast of at least 4.5 to 1). If you switch your device to dark mode, Mailovo follows automatically.

  • No mouse needed

Every step works with Tab, Enter and the space bar. A clear outline always shows where you are. A link at the very top jumps straight to the content.

  • Labelled for screen readers

Buttons, input fields and progress indicators have clear names. Error messages appear right next to the field concerned and are read out immediately.

  • Calm motion

If you have turned on “reduce motion” on your device, we show no animations. Nothing flashes and nothing moves on by itself.

  • Plain language, no time pressure

We write short sentences without jargon. The moving steps have no time limit. Only sign-in codes expire after 15 minutes for security reasons, and a new one is a click away. Family members can prepare a move for you without knowing your password.

How we tested

  • Automated check of every page type with the axe testing tool against WCAG 2.2 AA, in light and dark mode. Result: no errors.
  • Layout at 320 pixels wide, equivalent to 400% zoom: nothing is cut off and there is no sideways scrolling.
  • We repeat these checks with every major change.

Where we still fall short

  • We haven’t yet tested with people who use a screen reader every day, nor had an external expert audit. Both are planned. Automated checks don’t catch every problem.
  • Invoices and gift cards as PDF are not yet fully prepared for screen readers. Write to us and we’ll send you the content as plain text.
  • The sign-in pages of Microsoft and other providers are not part of Mailovo. We have no influence on their accessibility.
  • There are no texts in Easy Read and no sign language videos yet.
  • The legal notice, privacy policy and terms are only available in German.
